DanMachi #8

Straight to the point prologue, DanMachi did well in introducing the setting to viewers. A good prologue attracts more viewers in the long run, and DanMachi could see the importance at that.

One point I noticed and love is the casual introduction to the characters, as well as the dungeon “system” they’re using. By “system”, I meant the currency and the so-called status points (stat point) they use to measure their familia’s physical and magical abilities.

DanMachi #9

One, the currency that they use, is known as “vali” or “valis”. I can also assume that just by slaying a few low floor monsters can earn one enough money for at least a meal or two, as long as they’re savvy.

DanMachi #12

Two, they have a very RPG-like style with their status. There’s level along with the five base stats as follow: Strength (STR), Vitality (VIT), Dexterity (DEX), Agility (AGI) and Magic (MAG). It’s pretty much the standard thing in RPGs.

DanMachi #7

While we’re at this, I noticed that the story setting itself is very RPG-like. From monsters, dungeons, town designs and all the way to the status and currency system. So I believe Sword Art Online (SAO) fans would like this anime too.

Take a look at this scene. At first glance, I thought I was watching SAO! No kidding.

DanMachi #1

And this! The Minotaur looked like a mob that ran out of SAO and entered DanMachi by accident, and then got slayed by a beauty, oh you lucky bastard. Alright, jokes aside, let’s get on the introductions.

DanMachi Sword Princess moe

First up, we have the strongest adventurer in history, Ais Wallenstein, who is also nicknamed as the “Sword Princess”. Much of a beauty, she even got Bell Cranel captivated at first-sight.

Sorry, what’s that? You’re asking who is Bell Cranel? Ah right, coming right up!

DanMachi #3

Next up is Bell Cranel. Uhmm, he got menstruated all over, which explains the redness. It’s his period after all.

DanMachi #5

Alright, this is so much clearer now. Bell Cranel is currently the familia of Goddess Hestia. At the moment, he is her sole familia, and they are rather on close terms.

He’s rather weak at the moment, but due to certain reasons, he got really motivated to get stronger.

DanMachi Goddess Hestia #1

Here, we have Goddess Hestia. She teases Bell Cranel at times, and is hinted that she is in love with him.

DanMachi Goddess Hestia

So, we have a loli-like goddess with outstanding proportions. Well, it’s an anime after all!

DanMachi Goddess Hestia #2

Hmm, so graphic ain’t it? Want somemore?

DanMachi no Ecchi

Here you go! Mmnnhh–

Sorry, where was I?

Alright, let us get down to serious reviewing.

DanMachi start off with a good introduction and setting. Sure we may not have seen much, but at this course that it’s sailing, they’re definitely on the right track. A real-life RPG setting is unique and yet simple. And this is probably the first-time I’ve seen an RPG-style but not within a game, instead in real world. This is different from Sword Art Online which is still considered Virtual Reality.

A wee bit of ecchi here and there, which I consider to be mediocre, thankfully. Some ecchi is cool, but not when it becomes overboard. One anime from last season sure screwed up… Shinmai *ahem* no Testa–

Character designs are great, and leaves an impression. For example, Goddess Hestia with her proportions. If you’re a man, you just can’t forget what you saw now, can you? Well if not, you’re just fine as you are.

I just have a good feeling about DanMachi, and I will be keeping a close watch on this series. Note that this is but a first impression, and views may change as the story progresses. You know how often anime wastes and throw away their initial potential, right? However, I believe that there’s no need to fear, as DanMachi is adapted from a Light Novel, and thus you can be sure that the story is well-developed. It is definitely one of the animes I’m recommending this season, so be sure to add this to your watch-list! You wouldn’t regret!
